CNC Folding & Sheet Metal Bending Melbourne
Turn cut sheet metal into formed parts for enclosures, panels, brackets and assemblies. AI Fabrication provides automated bending and folding from our Epping workshop, alongside cutting, welding and finishing.
From Flat Sheet to a Formed Component
CNC folding and sheet metal bending create the angles, returns and flanges that give a cut component its three-dimensional shape. AI Fabrication works with aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel for one-off prototypes, custom jobs and repeat production.
Our automated bending capability sits within a wider sheet metal fabrication service. A part can move from laser cutting into forming, then on to the joining, finishing or marking processes required by the job.
The drawing, material, thickness and finished shape determine the manufacturing requirements. Send through what you have so we can discuss the part and the work needed.

What to Include in a Folding Enquiry
- A drawing or sketch showing the finished part and its key dimensions.
- Material type and grade, if specified, plus sheet thickness.
- Bend angles, flange dimensions and any specified internal radii.
- Dimensions or tolerances that matter for fit or assembly.
- Hole, slot, cut-out and fixing positions.
- Quantity, finish requirements and your requested delivery date.
If any of these details are undecided, identify them in your enquiry. It helps us focus the discussion on what still needs to be resolved.
Explain How the Part Will Fit
A formed part often needs to line up with another component, close around equipment or provide mounting points. Tell us which faces and dimensions are important to that fit, and include an assembly drawing or reference photographs where useful.
Let us know whether you already have cut blanks or need the complete part manufactured. If you have both a flat pattern and a finished-part drawing, include them and identify the current revision.
We also prepare 2D and 3D CAD/CAM designs in-house. If your project is at an earlier stage, explain what the component needs to do and what information is available.
Folding Within a Complete Fabrication Job
Formed panels and folded components are used throughout the products we manufacture, including electrical enclosures, custom toolboxes, data centre equipment and parts and housings for medical equipment makers.
Depending on the job, the next steps may include fastener inserting, welding, PU gasketing, powder coating, UV printing or engraving. Specify the finished assembly you need, including any mating parts, so cutting, forming and subsequent processes can be considered together.

CNC Folding Questions
Do you work with aluminium and stainless steel?
Yes. AI Fabrication works with aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel. Include the specified grade and thickness in your enquiry so we can review the requirements for your part.
Can you make a prototype before repeat production?
We work on one-off prototypes and production runs. Explain whether you need a trial part, a small batch or ongoing supply, and whether the design is already approved for manufacture.
What if I do not have a finished drawing?
Send a sketch, the dimensions you know and a description of the intended use. Our in-house CAD/CAM capability can support the discussion; the team can advise what further information is needed before manufacture.
Can you cut and finish the part as well as fold it?
Yes. Laser cutting, folding, welding and finishing are available in-house. Outline the full job in your enquiry, including assembly, coating, marking or sealing requirements.
What are your bending limits and tolerances?
Ask the team to review your drawing, material and thickness. The requirements depend on the specific geometry and job; include any critical dimensions and tolerances so they can be assessed before manufacture.
